Could you give one of these lovely Newcastle pups a new home?
At Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter, which has been taking in thousands of abandoned and neglected animals every year for more than a century, there are more than a dozen dogs looking for a family right now. From huskies to greyhounds to staffies, there’s sure to be the perfect home out there for each and every one.
Here are all 14 dogs at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter that are currently looking for new owners. If you think you could provide a forever home for any of these dogs, you can visit the shelter website to fill out an application form.

Mylo
A “stunning young boy with wonderful fun energy”, Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter says four-year-old husky Mylo is sure to bring plenty of laughs and joy to his new home.

“He thrives from attention and truly believes the spotlight should shine on him at all times,” the shelter says. “He oozes character and is always the centre of attention!”
Mylo can get over-excited at times, so needs new owners who can put the time into training and setting boundaries to help him learn better behaviours. Mylo is looking for an adult-only home, and he can be rehomed with other dogs but no cats or small animals.
Spirit
Described as a “lively and intelligent boy”, the shelter says six-year-old Akita cross Spirit is bound to keep his family on their toes with his cheeky antics.

“Spirit is a real character who is always happy to see you!” his description reads. “He oozes personality and is a confident, independent boy who enjoys human company but is just as happy to do his own thing.”
Spirit is looking for an active home to match his energetic personality, with owners who can provide him with lots of stimulation. Spirit can live with children aged 16 or over and other dogs, but unfortunately no cats or small animals.
Russo
Eight-year-old greyhound Russo is a “really gentle older boy with a heart of gold”, who loves the company of people and will always come and say hello to everyone he meets.

“He really needs to find his forever retirement home where he will be loved and spoilt!” the shelter says of Russo. “He would love a big cosy bed in a warm spot he can call his own for his many naps and a couple of walks a day to explore.”
Ex-racing greyhound Russo is looking for a laid-back new home where he won’t be left alone for too long. Russo can live with children aged 10 or over and other dogs, but no small animals.
Cass
“Absolute sweetheart” Cass is a nine-year-old lurcher, looking for a loving and relaxed home complete with plenty of snuggles.

“He is a gentle boy who loves his human friends and likes somebody to be around a lot of the time,” the shelter says of Cass. “He tends to stick close to his humans and clearly gains a lot of confidence by having his pals by his side.”
A home with plenty of time for leisurely walks will be perfect for Cass, where the shelter promises he will make “a fabulous and loyal companion”. Cass can be rehomed with children aged 13 or older and would prefer to be the only dog in the home with no cats or small animals.
Skye
Gorgeous Skye is a four-year-old husky, who may need some help getting comfortable with her new owners – but once you’ve befriended her Skye will be a “friend for life”, says the shelter.

“Skye is a very sweet girl who needs support and training to truly flourish in her new home,” her description reads. “We have no doubt she will make a wonderful companion to the right home.”
Skye will need to go to a family with experience of the breed, who can work with her to help bring out the best in her. Skye is looking for an adult-only home with no other dogs or small animals.
Karmi
Two-year-old Karmi is a loveable cross breed who has relocated from living abroad with her previous owners, and is excited by the new world around her.

“Karmi is a loving girl who melts with human attention,” the shelter says. “She loves to be fussed and will cover you in slobbery kisses.”
Karmi’s previous owners provided her with a lot of behaviour training, so she is looking for a new family who can continue this training. Karmi can live with children aged 16 or over, and needs to be the only animal in the home.
Prince
Young Prince is just one year old, and the energetic Staffy-cross is described as having “a real enthusiasm for life”.

“There are many things Prince loves, people, food, tennis balls and his walks!” says the shelter. “Prince doesn’t have a bad bone in his body, he just can’t contain himself around his human friends!”
Over-excitable Prince can jump up and mouth at hands when he’s happy to see people, so is looking for an owner who can help him manage his excitement with behaviour training that he missed out on as a puppy. Prince needs an adult-only home with no other animals.
Blade
Five-year-old Staffy Blade is a whirlwind of energy who loves a belly tickle, and the shelter promises that it will be impossible for his new owners not to adore him.

“There is no such thing as a stranger to Blade,” the shelter says. “He will meet everybody with the same keen eagerness in a desperate bid for your attention – which he loves!”
Blade is looking for an energetic home to match his larger-than-life personality, with plenty of enrichment toys to keep his mind active. Blade can live with children aged 15 or over, but needs to be the only animal in his new home.
Lola
Bulldog Lola is two years old, and can be shy to begin with but is a “bundle of affection” once she gets to know people according to the shelter.

“Lola is a real sweetheart who adores her human friends,” her description reads. “We have no doubt that once she is settled at home she will bring ample joy and smiles into her new family’s life.”
Lola had two big operations early on in her life, so missed out on socialising and can therefore get a bit nervous meeting new people and dogs and is looking for an owner who can help her work through this. Lola is looking for an adult-only home with no other pets.
Galaxy
Five-year-old husky Galaxy is a clever girl who will make a great addition to the family in an active household.

“Galaxy is a real sweetheart, she is strong and can be independent, she sure knows what she wants, which is usually food!” the shelter says. “She is a well rounded and intelligent dog with lots of confidence, making her great fun to be around!”
Galaxy is looking for a new home with experience of the breed, where she can spend lots of time being active outdoors. Galaxy can live with children aged 13 or over and other dogs in her new home, but no small animals.
Chichi
Chichi is a one-year-old Rottweiler and an “absolute sweetheart” according to shelter staff, who is looking for a home that will give her plenty of fuss and help her come out of her shell.

“Despite the fact she can be nervous in some situations, she always behaves herself and just wants to please her human friends!” the shelter says of Chichi. “She has so much love to give and will make a wonderful companion for one lucky family.”
Shy Chichi seems to have missed out on socialisation as a puppy, so is searching for a family that can help build her confidence. Chichi can live with children aged 15 or over, and is looking for a home with no other animals.
Shadow
One-year-old Staffy Shadow was born during lockdown, and is a “bouncy, fun, bright boy” who is making progress after having missed out on key socialisation. The shelter says that Shadow has really come out of his shell in his foster home, and loves cuddles, playing with toys and showing off tricks.

“Shadow is well and truly ready to start the next stage of his journey and find his forever home,” his description reads. “He needs a home with time and patience who is able to keep calm and relaxed to reassure Shadow everything is ok.”
Shadow can be worried and reactive in new situations, but has already had a lot of training from behaviourists and is looking for a forever home that can give him ongoing support. Shadow is looking for an adult-only home with no other animals.
Ranger
Adorable Ranger is seven years old, and the laid-back pup loves nothing more than snoozes and hotdogs. A dog who gets along with everyone he meets, staff say that the family who take Ranger home will be very lucky indeed.

“Ranger is a super chilled out guy who you can’t help but love – he takes everything in his stride and nothing seems to phase him!” the shelter says. “His favourite thing is just simply having the company of his humans, he wants nothing more than to just be sat by you having a cuddle.”
Ranger is on long-term medication for some skin conditions, which potential new owners should bear in mind as this could have an impact on insurance and be expensive in the future. Ranger is happy to live with other dogs in his new home, and can also live with cats and small animals.
Angel
Four-year-old cane corso Angel is described as “an absolute sweetheart of a girl” who the shelter says is a pleasure to spend time with.

“Angel has been incredibly well behaved since coming into our care as a stray,” her description reads. “She is ever so slightly nervous when first meeting new people but quickly warms up and shows her true beautiful personality.”
Angel loves spending time with people and long walks, so would be best suited to an active home with plenty of cuddles. Angel can be rehomed with children aged 12 and over, and she can live with other dogs, cats and small animals.
