Implementing healthy morning habits can make a world of difference in your life. Not only is the morning the best time to set yourself up for success, but it’s also the one time of day when we have a minute of peace before we all get started on our overwhelming to-do list. To help you energize your morning, we have compiled a simple list of six new rituals you can add to your morning routine that will help you feel more ready to tackle the day!
Starting your morning with meditation is one of the best things you can do. When you start your day with this practice, you’ll quickly discover the difference that breathing can make. Instead of reaching for your phone as soon as you wake up, as many of us do, instead, try quieting your mind and focusing on deep breathing. This can help block out intrusive thoughts and replace the mental chatter and clutter. As a result, you will find that you are able to be more productive throughout the day, and you may feel a positive shift in your mood. If you find it difficult to set out time to sit down and meditate, it can be as simple as taking a moment in the shower, or while brushing your teeth, to calm your thoughts and focus on your breathing.
If you’re used to waking up feeling groggy and wanting to press snooze, try doing a quick workout! While it’s understandable that not everyone is up for a run first thing in the morning, yoga is a great option to consider! This can be as simple as doing a 15-minute at-home stretching routine, just to get your body moving. Not only can yoga help with strength-building, but it can help balance and center your body internally. Exercising in the morning can also get your blood flowing, make you feel energized and ready to start your day on a high note.
3. Drink warm lemon water
Drinking warm lemon water first thing in the morning has been a popular trend for years, and for good reason. Lemons contain potassium which helps with brain and nerve function, and can ultimately increase alertness and energize your mornings. Plus, when you wake up, your body is dehydrated and may cause you to feel sluggish. Drinking water with fresh-squeezed lemon can also kickstart your digestion, protect your immune system, boost your feel-good hormones, reduce your stress levels, and will help you feel your absolute best.
Tongue-scraping is an Ayurvedic practice in which you use a hygiene device to remove the daily build-up of toxins or Ama on the tongue. In Ayurveda, ama is the accumulation of toxins in the body. Copper tongue scrapers specifically are great because they have antibacterial properties. Tongue scraping is best done after you brush your teeth. The technique is simple, all you need to do is hold the scraper at the ends which each hand, and stick your tongue out and scrape off the white coating a couple of times, and rinse when you’re done.
5. Eat fresh fruit
We all know that fruits are nutritious, and they can be consumed at any time of the day. However, Fueling your body with the right fruits on an empty stomach can help you feel more productive and energized. Watermelon, papaya, kiwi, and blueberries are some of the best fruits to eat on an empty stomach. Aside from their beautiful colors, they are full of antioxidants, electrolytes, and are hydrating. Eating fruit on an empty stomach your body to absorb the vitamins and minerals better.
Oil-pulling is an Ayurvedic practice that involves swishing pure coconut oil around your mouth in the morning for about 15 minutes. While this may sound like a long time, it has actually been proven to help prevent bacterial growth in your mouth, improve your gum health, and even whiten your teeth naturally without any harsh chemicals. You can even read a book or do some morning stretches while you’re waiting for the time to pass. Just remember to rinse when the time is up! The best part is, oil-pulling can increase your energy levels since it is essentially doing all the work to rid the body of the stress that comes with eliminating toxins!
