Beloved therapy poodle stolen in carjacking returned to Brooklyn grandma – New York Daily News

A Brooklyn grandmother was reunited with her adored therapy poodle Sunday — a week after a carjacker stole the woman’s car with the pooch still inside.

Isabella Pavon, 19, said Luna, a 9-year-old toy poodle, is safe and sound with the grateful grandma in Old Mill Basin while cops continue a search for the thief.

Luna came home by way of a good Samaritan, who said he saw news coverage of the theft and confronted a strange man walking the pilfered pooch through Brooklyn, Pavon said.

“Luna is extremely happy to be home. When we reunited her with my grandma it was so emotional,” she said. “My grandma was bawling her eyes out. Luna was so happy… She was running around the house, playing catch with the ball. She was just rolling around.”

On June 6, a robber crept up behind the 73-year-old woman as she returned to her Honda Civic after walking Luna at Lindower Park in Old Mill Basin, police said. He yanked the retired teacher’s aide out by her legs, shoved her to the ground and then drove off in her car, with Luna still inside.

Detectives found the Honda near S. Ninth and Berry Sts. in Williamsburg Wednesday, but no Luna.

Pavon said she was contacted Sunday morning by a husband and wife who managed to retrieve the pooch. As the husband told it, he spotted a man dragging Luna by the leash, with no harness, on Utica Ave. by Linden Blvd. a few days ago.

He said he saw a TV report about Luna, and believed the dog he saw was the stolen poodle. When he spotted the same man again, he said he grabbed the leash, took Luna and reached out to Pavon’s family. He and his wife asked for no reward, Pavon said.

“Now that she has her dog with her, I can definitely see that her spirit was completely changed,” Pavon said. She has not let go of that dog for this last few hours.”
