Amigo, a blind kitten, was found wandering the streets alone by a good Samaritan. When he arrived at the vet, they discovered that he had microphthalmia, causing his eyes to be abnormally small. The kitten had no vision in one eye and only a small amount in the other, only able to see light and shadows.
Upon arrival, he was very frightened and needed a lot of reassurance. Luckily, the vet reached out to Best Friends Felines, a local rescue, and found a loving foster home for Amigo. A volunteer picked him up the next day and took him to his foster home.
The kitten had a difficult time adjusting to his new environment because of his limited vision, but he managed very well considering his condition. He would startle easily but enjoyed the company of other cats very much. When he found himself around some feline friends, he cuddled up to Smokey the cat and squeezed himself next to her for snuggles. He would often bump into things while navigating, but as long as there was a cat buddy nearby, he was never fazed.
Despite his challenges, Amigo was able to run and play like any other kitten, finding his food and water without any issues. He climbed onto couches, beds, and cat trees without any problem, but he climbed down backwards rather than jumping down like sighted cats. However, he could be jumpy around sudden noises or movements but would start to purr away in contentment once he cuddled up to a feline friend. As he got older, he became more confident with his surroundings and with other cats around him.
After spending five months in foster care waiting for his perfect home, two former adopters, Kelly and Louie, came across Amigo and knew he would make a great companion to their 8-month-old cat, Basil. Basil was also found on the street and brought into the rescue for a chance at a better life. Basil was full of confidence and energy and enjoyed snuggling and making biscuits with his kneady paws.
Kelly and Louie were dedicated and patient enough to adopt Amigo, who needed a home that would accept his timid nature and who were willing to take a chance on a cat that they couldn’t touch during a meet-and-greet. Amigo left his foster home and immediately bonded with his new parents and his fur brother, Basil. With Basil around, Amigo quickly came out of his shell and followed him everywhere around the house. The two kittens became instant best friends, and Amigo had found his forever home filled with love and warmth.
Amigo’s story is a testament to the power of love and patience, showing that animals with special needs and timid personalities can thrive when given the right home and environment. His new parents have a lot of patience and love for this special kitten, and they have gained a loving companion for life.
