Sarabi, a seven-year-old cat, found herself in an emergency veterinary clinic when her family could no longer afford her care. The veterinary team discovered that she had given birth to one kitten ten days prior, but had trouble delivering the rest. In a rush to save Sarabi’s life, the team performed an emergency c-section, and the first kitten born ended up being the sole survivor of the litter.
Marie, founder of One Cat at a Time, a cat rescue organization, was contacted and immediately offered to help. She arranged for a foster home where Sarabi could start her healing. She was given a comfortable nursery to raise her baby, Simba, and helping hands from her foster family.
Despite the trauma she had endured, Sarabi was a resilient cat who dove right into mothering duties post-surgery. She feasted on all the food to regain strength while she catered to her baby’s every whim. Over the next few days, she began to fill out, and her fur coat grew fluffier by the day.
Meanwhile, Simba was starting to open his eyes and had a voracious appetite. While Sarabi was recovering, her foster family stepped in to make sure that Simba was well fed and cared for 24/7. Despite having gone through an incredibly difficult birth, Sarabi was determined to be the best mother she could be.
Simba went on to hit many milestones and became an inquisitive and adventurous kitty who wasn’t afraid of getting himself in trouble. Sarabi, on the other hand, began to spend more time with her people as the center-of-attention she deserved to be. After having litter after litter, Sarabi was ready to retire from motherhood and enjoy the peace-and-quiet she desired. Her inner kitten emerged when she rediscovered toys and zoomies, and she wasn’t shy about speaking her mind whenever she wanted something.
Simba has a “minor anomaly” in his mouth and had surgery to remove some teeth to allow his jaw to settle. Just like his mom, he is growing out his long, lush fur coat and has become quite fond of regular brushing. At eight years old, Sarabi was ready to find a forever home where she could live like a queen and be cherished for the rest of her days.
A wonderful family fell in love with her when they came across her story. They opened their hearts to welcome the deserving girl into their family. Soon, they found Sarabi scampering around the house with her long, bushy tail, playing to her heart’s content. With a second chance, Sarabi has turned into a stunning, fluffy cat, living happily in her forever home with her loving humans.
It’s stories like Sarabi and Simba’s that give people hope that even in the toughest moments, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the veterinary team, One Cat at a Time, and Sarabi’s foster family, both Sarabi and Simba were able to pull through and thrive. Sharing their story not only spreads awareness and appreciation for animal rescue and care organizations but also shows the resilience and love that cats are capable of giving, even in the most challenging of circumstances.
