Kattencafé Familie Snorhaar (Cat Café “Whiskers Family”) is a cozy café located just outside Breda’s city center in the Netherlands. Here, eight shelter cats have found their forever homes, and visitors can enjoy a nice cup of coffee, tea, and homemade treats and dishes while cuddling with their feline friends. If you’re a cat lover, this is the purrfect place for you.
The concept of cat cafés originated in Taiwan and Japan as a service for people who were unable to keep their pets at home – a common issue in many Asian countries. Nowadays, cat cafés are popular all over the world, and the Netherlands is no exception. The first Dutch cat café, Kopjes, opened its doors in Amsterdam in 2015, and since then, many other cities have followed suit. Kattencafé Familie Snorhaar is just one of them.
The café looks like a large living room, complete with cat furniture, scratching posts, and toys. The cats – Bobbie, Ollie, Masja, Harry, Boris, Cleo, Stella, and Luna – have all been carefully selected for their character and traits to ensure that they are people-oriented and attention-loving. They enjoy living together in a group, and they are comfortable staying indoors. The café even has a “cats only” room where they can retreat when they want some alone time.
Unfortunately, the cats of Kattencafé Familie Snorhaar are not up for adoption. The constant change in group composition would be very stressful for them. However, if a cat doesn’t feel at home in the café, the owners will make sure that it gets a new, happy home.
Apart from the opportunity to cuddle with the cats, the café also organizes various activities, such as yin yoga, game nights, and workshops. And during the café’s Catty Hour, each Friday from 2 pm to 5 pm, visitors can try some delicious loaded nachos made with shredded jackfruit, cheddar, sour cream, and vegetables.
Reserving a table is recommended, as the café can get crowded. A reservation costs €2.50 and allows visitors to stay for two hours. During that time, they can eat, drink, and – of course – cuddle with the cats. On quiet days, visitors can stay longer.
If you love cats and you’re in Breda, we can’t recommend visiting Kattencafé Familie Snorhaar enough. As well as the café’s resident felines, visitors can browse through several feline-themed books and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. Plus, with such a warm, welcoming environment, you might just come away with a newly-adopted feline friend.
