US charity Animal Humane Society (AHS) has rescued 47 cats who were living in a vehicle with their owner in sweltering heat at a rest stop in the state of Minnesota.
The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota State Patrol officers requested assistance from AHS after responding to a report about the cats at the rest stop.
The owner had been living in the vehicle with the cats for some time, but agreed to release them to AHS humane agents.
Prior to the incident, 14 other cats that had been living in the vehicle were released to a local rescue organisation.
The owner was assessed by paramedics and “provided with medical resources”.
The cats range in age from less than a year, to over 12.
Despite the unhygienic conditions and extreme heat in the vehicle, the cats appeared to only suffer with minor health conditions following assessments.
They are currently being cared for, examined, and evaluated by AHS veterinary and animal behaviour staff.
The charity said the cats will be made available for adoption once any health conditions are addressed.
