A Sheffield animal sanctuary has posted a desperate plea to help a bulldog who was previously forced to breed to much she’s now severely ill.
Thornberry Animal Sanctuary has recently taken in English Bulldog Brandy, who has come from difficult circumstances. She was used to breed previously and was forced to have so many litters she now has several health problems.
Brandy is suffering from hugely enlarged mammary tissues, bacterial dermatitis, and is urinating blood constantly. She is thought to have ‘not visited the vets in some time’.

The sanctuary, in North Anston, Sheffield, wrote: “Brandy has sadly had a difficult start in life. She came to Thornberry this week as her previous owner was no longer able to care for her. She hasn’t visited a vet for a considerable amount of time, and she came to us in a very poor state. She has absolutely broken our hearts.
“Brandy was originally used as a breeding b**ch before passed to her previous owner and it is very clear that she has had many, many litters. Because of this, her mammary tissues have become so enlarged that they are now inches from the floor.
“Not only is she incredibly uncomfortable as a result, she’s at real risk of developing an infection. There is a very high chance that we will have to perform surgery in order to ease her suffering.”
In addition, Brandy came to Thornberry so infested with fleas the volunteers were “incredibly concerned” she would end up developing Anaemia. The bacterial dermatitis, a skin infection, is in the folds of Brandy’s skin. The vet team at Thornberry are also still trying to discover why Brandy is urinating blood constantly.
Thornberry has estimated Brandy’s care could end up costing up to £5,000. The sanctuary is desperately asking for antibacterial wipes that can help with Brandy’s skin infection. Her previous owner who passed her to Thornberry was not the person who used her for breeding.
The sanctuary said: “Every single day we are hearing from owners who are desperate to rehome their dogs, many of which are in similar sad situations to Brandy. We want to help and be there for as many of these suffering animals as we can, but we can’t do it alone.
Your donation can help our vet and animal care team to provide Brandy with the best possible care and help her get back to enjoying life. Brandy is not available for adoption at the moment as we are working hard to put a care plan in place for her.
“She is 6 years old and, with her many issues, it’s incredibly important to us that we help her quickly to improve her quality of life. At the moment she is struggling, and she needs our help, love and care desperately. Anything you can donate will be literally life-changing for her, so thank you.”
Thornberry is fundraising to pay for Brandy’s care and other dogs struggling like her – to donate to help them, head to their website here. Alternatively, they have an Amazon wish list with specific items needed for the care of its animals, which you can find here.
