Two little sisters, Coco and Puff, were found at San Jose Animal Care Center and Services, underweight, covered in fleas, and with crusty eyes. They were also suffering from an upper respiratory infection. Amber Rose, the founder of Saving Grace Rescue, found them and immediately knew they had to be rescued. The two kittens were the remaining ones at the shelter, and Amber and her team of volunteers quickly took action.
Joyce, who fosters for Saving Grace Rescue, took the sisters in and named them Coco and Puff. The sisters were treated for their infection, and their little faces were cleaned up. They began their healing process in the warmth and comfort of their foster home. With proper care, good food, and plenty of snuggles, they quickly perked up and began to make good gains.
As their voracious appetite returned, so did their voices. Coco and Puff started meowing loudly, with Coco being the loudest and most opinionated of the two. Her sister Puff was quieter, but also very smart, quickly figuring out how to use the litter box on her own.
The kittens soon grew to adore their foster family. They became very curious and active, constantly on the lookout for new friends to play and cuddle with. Coco, the fearless talker, would go around the house befriending everyone, with Puff trailing behind.
Two months before the kittens arrived, Joyce had welcomed a rescue dog, Chobani, into her care. The terrier mix was found outside while she was pregnant and was taken in by HDBnQ Rescue. After raising her puppies, she was ready to find a place of her own.
When Chobani heard Coco and Puff meowing, her maternal instincts kicked in, and she was itching to see them. When it was time for them to meet, Chobani went straight to them and showered them with kisses and cleaned their faces like she was their mother.
Coco quickly took a liking to Chobani and would even hang out with her on the couch, curling up in her arms and giving her plenty of head bumps. Puff didn’t want to be left out of the cuddle fest and would also join in on the comfort-nursing.
Chobani has happily accepted the role as their surrogate mama, providing them with pacifiers and being their pillow to nap on. Coco and Puff, who arrived as sickly kittens, have made a full recovery and grown in size, strength, and confidence.
They have a loving foster family to prepare them for their future forever home and a sweet canine mama to cater to their every whim. Their bond with Chobani is heartwarming and a beautiful example of how foster animals can create unexpected and wonderful relationships.
