The Los Angeles-based dog rescue organization from which Olivia Wilde adopted her Golden Retriever, Gordon, wants to “set the record straight” about what really happened to him.
Amid bombshell claims from the actress’ former nanny, Maeday Rescue took to Instagram Friday to explain the “Don’t Worry Darling” director’s decision to “re-home Gordy.”
They called Wilde, 38, a “huge animal rescue advocate” and “responsible pet owner” who acted “out of compassion and love for him.”
According to Maeday, the organization “rescued” Gordon – “along with his 4 littermates” – from an unnamed “shelter” in 2018.
The rescue’s founder, Natalie, then “fostered them and bottle fed them” until the organization was able to find them “their perfect forever homes.”
Wilde “adopted” one of the four dogs “at 2 months old” and gave him “much love,” “training” and “travel adventures.”
However, per the rescue center, the actress “realized that Gordy didn’t love the travel life and wasn’t happy around toddlers.”
Wilde and her ex-fiancé, Jason Sudeikis, share two children: son Otis, 8, and daughter Daisy, 6.
Maeday claims that Gordon “had formed a very strong bond with his dog walker,” who lived in Brooklyn.
“Olivia called Maeday to discuss” the situation, and “after much thought and consideration,” all parties involved felt that giving the hound to the New York dog walker would be in “Gordy’s best interest.”
“Every once in a while the animal is just happier in a different environment and that’s okay,” the rescue center wrote, insisting that they “pride” themselves on “finding that perfect forever home” for their animals.
Maeday also pointed out that Gordy’s Instagram page is packed with proof that “he is living his best life!”
“We felt like we should share this because we hate that the media is painting a Maeday adopter in a bad light,” the organization explained without further elaboration.
Last week, Wilde and Sudeikis’ former nanny made a series of shocking allegations about the exes, including that the director carelessly got rid of Gordon in order to be able to travel more with her then-new beau, Harry Styles.
“After [Wilde] left [at the start of November 2020], she came for a visit and said, ‘We have to find Gordon a new home,’ nonchalantly,” the ex-employee alleged to the Daily Mail.
“Jason doesn’t really care for animals and wanted him out of their home ASAP.”
According to the nanny, who chose to remain anonymous, Sudeikis, 47, once allegedly told her Wilde only had the pet for “appearances anyway” and that she “rarely cared” for him.
“I told Jason I knew somebody who loves Gordon and was willing to take him in,” the woman claimed. “So Jason said, ‘Let’s get him out of here right away.’”
In a joint statement to Page Six, Wilde and Sudeikis issued an all-encompassing denial of their ex-staffer’s claims.
“As parents, it is incredibly upsetting to learn that a former nanny of our two young children would choose to make such false and scurrilous accusations about us publicly,” they told us last week via their rep.
“Her now 18-month-long campaign of harassing us, as well as loved ones, close friends and colleagues, has reached its unfortunate apex. We will continue to focus on raising and protecting our children with the sincere hope that she will now choose to leave our family alone.”
