Toko-san spent two million yen in his dogged quest to become a Lassie-lookalike, which is so convincing it would force any onlooker to paws and look again.
“I made it a collie because it looks real when I put it on,” he said, explaining the breed’s long hair disguised his human figure.
The canine costume, which allows Toko to achieve his ambition of walking on four legs, was made over 40 days by TV and film costume agency Zeppet.
Toko-san, whose favourite type of dog is a collie, was closely involved in the process and sat through multiple meetings and fittings as it was perfected.
