‘He has 5 beds and the only place he wants to be is up on the couch with us. He loves hot water bottles and loves the heat. He would sleep in front of a fire for hours.’
Arlo is a gorgeous purebred smooth-haired miniature dachshund from Cork.
His owner, Lesley Ann Daunt, fell in love with him and adopted him from a reputable breeder in Tipperary.
“We welcomed Arlo into our family in November last year – November 2020,” Lesley told Ireland’s Next Top Madra. “We took a trip up to a reputable breeder in Tipperary and the moment we saw him we fell in love.
“We also met his mom and dad and had plenty of nice chats with the breeder so we knew he was coming from a good place and he had all the required paperwork. He cost us a small fortune but he is worth every penny.”
Arlo is now one year old and has grown into a dog full of character.
“The best way to describe his personality; he is extremely nosey, he loves people of all ages, he is cuddly and affectionate, he is a little mischievous rogue,” laughed Lesley. “He follows us around everywhere and is very needy. We spoil him so it’s our own fault!

However, things haven’t always been smooth sailing for Arlo. In March, his family almost lost him for good after he contracted parvovirus.
“He was fully vaccinated and the vets said they had not seen a case like his in years,” said Lesley. “He was in hospital for two weeks and we will forever be grateful to the vets.
“Thankfully he came home to us and made a full recovery. We appreciate our boy so much. Some day he will talk to us, we are sure of it.”
Despite, being a dog, Arlo has a social life to die for!
“Arlo goes to day care twice a week, for our sanity,” said Lesley. “He loves it. If we say the words ‘day care’ he goes absolutely nuts and doesn’t stop barking and howling until we open the car door to bring him up.
“He knows the words ‘into bed’, ‘breakfast’, ‘dinner’, ‘walkies’, and ‘granny’s house’ among others. Arlo is a hunter dog so he loves a good sniff and he loves being outdoors playing with other humans and other doggies.”
