Two of the seven beagles reported missing from Lakeshore have been found, according to police.
Ontario Provincial Police said Thursday afternoon that the two dogs were located at separate locations within the City of Windsor.
The seven dogs were reported stolen from a property on Lions Club Road in Lakeshore in the early morning hours of June 5. OPP Constable Steven Duguay said the remaining five animals are still missing.
Police did not say how the two found beagles ended up in Windsor or what condition they were in when they were found.
The dogs were at the centre of a controversy with claims that they were being kept on the Lions Club Road property and not being let out. A grassroots group had taken up the cause, and the Municipality of Lakeshore had agreed to consider changes to bylaws concerning animal tethering and more thorough background checks on animal welfare officers.
There have been no criminal charges in this matter. Duguay said there is a great deal of concern for the well-being of the five dogs still missing.
