BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The Toy Poodle mauled by a Pitbull at the Yard House restaurant in Boca Raton lost its ear, but is slowly recovering. Professionals connected with the dog’s treatment tell BocaNewsNow.com that there was no way to reattach the Toy Poodle’s ear due to the extensive damage caused by the violent Pitbull, but the Toy Poodle will continue to recover after its extensive surgery.
As BocaNewsNow.com first reported Monday, a Pitbull — inexplicably permitted into an outdoor dining area at Yard House which is owned by Darden Restaurants (NYSE: DRI) — lunged for the Toy Poodle sitting in a stroller. The video of the attack, documented by Instagram member “PPV_Tahoe,” reveals screams of horror as diners witness the attack. One man is seen kicking the Pitbull while another attempts to wrestle it away from the Toy Poodle in its jaws. The video was just released of the attack that happened on or about June 10th.
“I understand why the man kicked the Pitbull,” said an area Veterinarian who asked not to be identified due to the controversy inherent with Pitbulls, “but that likely only made it more aggressive. The best thing anyone could have done was to strangle the Pitbull just enough to block its air supply. The dog would eventually need air and would have then released the dog from its mouth.”
Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control turned over its investigation to Miami-Dade Animal Care which has jurisdiction due to Pitbull’s owner living in Hialeah. Miami-Dade County bans Pitbulls, which means the agency could order the dog destroyed. A spokesperson had not responded to a request for details of Miami-Dade’s investigation mid-afternoon Tuesday.
BocaNewsNow.com received multiple calls and emails from concerned readers fearing that the Toy Poodle had died as a result of the attack. Medical professionals with knowledge of the incident tell BocaNewsNow.com that the Toy Poodle’s owner acted quickly — even placed the dog’s ear on ice — and rushed to a local clinic. Despite the ice, the ear could not be saved, but the Toy Poodle will otherwise recover.
Darden Restaurants, which owns Yard House, did not respond to a request for comment about the violent attack on its property.
